Christmas is Almost Here

I am so sorry for putting off this post for, well, forever.... I just have been really busy this holiday season. Christmas is right around the corner. I can't wait, and I will be furiously counting the days until it comes. I guess the most commonly wished for gift throughout my school would have to be..... an iPod. (That's what I want...) I am on a two week break now, as are all of you, and I am so happy! This is the first official day. I know it's only two weeks, but it is already feeling like FOREVER. Not one time, 7 days. TWO times with seven days. How could I not be happy this time of year? Who knows, who knows. Merry Christmas to all!

Walkin' In a Winter Wonderland

Snow. For some, beautiful. For some, PUTRIDLY HORRIBLE! We have gotten quite a lot of snow latley, and I think that I am in the former category. I love snow! Yes, it is beautiful and white and fluffy, but there are also some bad parts. (I ALWAYS get snow in my gloves and boots, my socks always manage to fall off, and my scarf gets frosty.) But that is the way of snow, no? So I have compiled a list, well, actually two lists, about the best and worst of snow.

BEST                                                         WORST
  1.    You can sled in it                     You can crash into a tree and break your nose
  2.  You can make snowballs              Snowballs with stones..
  3. You can build a snowman           The snowman melts and ruins your hat
  4. You can drink hot chocolate!       The hot chocolate can scald your tounge
  5. You can gaze at the pretty snow.   Once the snowplows come, the snow is not so pretty.. :P

Well, that's all for now gnomes! BTW, this one goes out to my cousin Alicia in Georgia! Sorry Alicia, hope you get some snow. :)

Stingah

Today I went to the biggest aquarium IN THE WORLD! I am on Thanksgiving break in Georgia where my cousin Alicia lives. Yesterday, as ya guys know, was Thanksgiving. It was very very yummah. But, that is besides the point, really. Today we went to the Aquarium and it is really quite amazing. We saw a huge tunnel that you can walk through, water on all sides! There is also all kinds of fish from all around the world, including pirannahs. I am posting the pic of the tunnel now.

It was pretty awesome amazing! Plus, I got a stuffed whale shark that I named Stingah for no particular reason at all. This is because - get ready for this - they have TWO WHALE SHARKS, biggest fish in the world there. It is really neat. Well. that's all for today, gnomes! P.S. below is a picture of a stuffed animal that looks like Stingah.

That Random Picture of the Week

You know that every week, I have a new really random picture of the week on this blog. Or at least I try to. Well, look at the one that I posted this week. It really does cats some good. You know that one website with all the pictures of cats with bad grammar? Like this:

Yes, well, funny as it may be, (which it is, HA!) I do think that some cats rather like English and proper grammar. So, below, I have added a feline who would like to correct this fault for all cats who agree:

That is the picture of the week, gnomes! See why it is good to check?

What Is An Itch?

Have you ever wondered what makes an itch? I have decided my posts should be a little more random and less about myself, because latley that has been what it is. So, I decided to research for YOU, gnomes, what makes an itch, well, an itch.

SO, In order to do that, I have to research. Hold on a sec. Ah! So, apparentley, an itch is when a tiny irratant settles on your skin. Then, your brain tells you to itch in order to remove the irritant. That little bit of scratching relieves the itch because the brain knows the irritant is probably gone.

Now I don't know about you, but in the course of researching, (thanks answerbag) and writing this post I have been itching and scratching up a storm. Is it just me, or does reading about itches make you itchy?

Live Journal- should I stay or should I go?

Hello, Gnomes.

I have been doing some thinking, and I think that I may move all my posting to another blogging site, Live Journal. It is still me, gnomes! Hey, though, don't stop reading Dandelions yet. I don't know yet, gnomes. It is just an idea because I like the template and layout better on Live Journal. I am currentley writing an online journal at that site, but it is a private journal, which means only I can see it. We'll see if I switch. Watch for decision posts gnomes!

Algae Tablets

Well, gnomes, we got two new snails after Olive and Libby, Rest In Peace. They are named Libby Two and Goldie. Of course, Mungo Snail, aka Ryan is still doing just peachy, kow, but I think I know something really awesome for snails. ALGAE TABLETS, GNOMES!!! We bought them and the new snails ate them up! They are active and healthy right now, kow, and I think this did the trick! We are using one every time they finifh it. Who knew they would love it?

Over and Out,

DC

I sure knew that I would use the title DC again. And look, I did! But this time, I AM GOING TO DC TOMORROW MORNING, YEAH!!!!!! So, I probably won't be posting any more this week and possibly not on the weekends. I have to get up at six in the morning now. SIX IN THE MORNING. I am probably goung to pack my pillow on the bus, which reminds me that I am posting, not packing. Anyways, to make the getting up at 5:00 to get there by 6:00, dot time, worse, (My made up phrase for on the dot.) I have to go in DC Dress! DC dress does NOT include the following ever so awesome bus ridin' clothes. As I list these items that we may not wear, let me remind you of this. I, and most of you that read this, have an 8 HOUR bus ride ahead of us. At least it's on a charter bus. I might go crazy with 8 hours on a school bus...

Things that We Can't wear on the bus: A SHORT LIST
1. Sweats
2.PJ's
3.Jeans
4.T-Shirts with a design on them
5. Really- shouldn't wear plain ol' shirts in general.

So, yes, you see my point now, right? Maybe. But in the long run I am so excited... who knew that me, Cameron, could go to DC?

All I can say is I have decided... not to bring a jar of cheese. I have quite the journey ahead of me! :)

The Day of Shop

Shopping takes many forms. It can be good, it can be totally budget busting, it can be... shopping. Today, I am going shopping. That is a boring topic for a blog. You do not want to read about someone going shopping for apparell to wear to DC, which by the way I am going to on THIS WEDNESDAY!!! No, you do not. But yet, I think I know what I would read about... a hunt for cheesecloth. Yes, besided actual stuff that I really need, I need cheese cloth. Cheese cloth is really cool. If you have never seen it before, I am posting a picture of it in the Random Picture of the Week down there. (Last two week picture was a flying stapler, I think..) Anyways.... I am using cheesecloth to make a cool ghost costume with spiders in it. I was going to be a plain sheet ghost, but I realized I would just look like a lazy costumer. (COSTME -r, not consumer.)  Just like I was a lazy blogger last week. (Big spaces between statments are never appreciated.) but, yeah, I think I can find it in Jo Ann's Fabrics. Or is that Joanne's Fabrics? Yeah, that's it. Joanne's Fabrics. So I am to embark today, cheescloth lookin' and all, ready for both DC.

Wooly Bears

Did you know that wooly bears are not bears?

I should hope that you posess such knowledge about them. So what are they..... WELL, caterpillars. I have had many an experience with them. In fact, just yesterday my little sister found a wooly bear. It had a really small brown band, so you know that you are in for a rough winter.

But probably my most memorable account with a wooly bear was with LAR. Lar was a little wooly bear that my friend and i found. (OK, ok, It is you, Dana.) And we named it Lar. We did a photo shoot with Lar before he fell into a crack. Then we had to get him out, and BOY, that was an ordeal!!! Poor Lar. But he made it out, and so now he is OK. But I loved Lar, and I really like Wooly Bears. I guess it is just their Wooly Bear-ness. When you go for hikes, check that you don't step on em'!

A Maize Maze

Well, I could have written this on Columbus Day, but Columbus Day seemed like a more pressing issue, seeing as yesterday was... Columbus Day. So today, I am writing about the Corn maze that I visited on Sunday. It is a very large corn maze. Very large. In other words of emphasis, you can see that mass of creativley carved corn from SPACE. This year, the corn maze was plowed to look like a giant Browns player and a Browns helmet, and a giant Steelers player and a Steelers helmet. It is quite cool. So, like last year, (I think this is becoming an annual thing..) We trooped into the maze. Oh, by the way, if you didn't catch the title, Maize means corn. (ooooooooh.) So we figured out this year that the paths were the lines and not the space in between. We made it out alive and enjoyed the other fruits of the fall harvest fest. bottom line, it was cool.

Columbus Day

In 14 hundred and nintey- two, Columbus sailed the ocean blue... ect. We all know the saying. And we think we know the whole story and meaning of Columbus and Columbus DAY. But hey, do you? What comes to mind when you think of Columbus? A proud man driving a flag into a white beach? A proud, kind man communicating with the Indians? Who is Columbus really? He could be these images, but in my PERSONAL opinion, I think that Columbus was a little less kind. We pretty much know for a fact that Columbus was abusive to the Native Americans. We always say that Columbus "discovered" America, but on top of the fact that the Indians were here first, there is speculation that the Vikings discovered America before Chris! Now, I am not saying that Columbus's voyage was a meaning-less one. of course it was important. It was important to the whole age of exploration! All I am saying is that we sometimes tend to overlook the bad things about Columbus day that aren't taught to most kids. Just one person's opinion, but a good pondering thought. That's all for today, gnomes!

Orders and Pictures

Today I am going to write without first putting a title down first. You know, usually I pick a title and then write all about it. However, I cannot think of a title, well, a good title, so I am going to write about whatever comes to mind then put a title naming it. I was thinking that It would be neat if I could start embedding videos or posting pictures with my blog posts as well. I mean, several people do, I might as well. Why has my blog been all text anyways? Well, here I go...

And, no, I did not upload that off the internet. That is a real, honest to goodness picture I took at the Fall Harvest Festival. And, hey, if you are one of those who wants their pics, please post on lightening bugs (my wiki) the code of the one you want. I will have it there.

Thoughts about Thinking

You are probably thinking right now. In fact, if you are reading my blog, you are thinking. You have to be. Feel those Thoughts flow through your head. You can't stop thinking. it never will be. You are always, to the extent of my knowledge, thinking. Now, if you are the skeptic among tohe many people out there, consider the following....

  • Your dreams are, as far as we know, your brain THINKING
  • When you zone out, you are thinking of other things.
  • In order to go about being a person, you have to think about everything.

Thinking is amazing. What would you do if you couldn't THINK? Or if everything you had to say to yourself had to be spoken out loud? What is thinking? And what are mind readers, then? There are so many questions about thinking that I don't know the answer to. Even these thoughts running through my head that I am pounding out now on a keyboard are thoughts. What I am really doing is just posing more questions. There is absolutley no denying it. When you think about thinking... you just think more.

Curls In My Hair

I have tried to curl my hair before. When I do, it usually just falls back again, and turnds out looking straight, yet messy a short while later. However, as I sit and type, know that my hair is indeed full of curls. It really is. You might think, (AND I THINK) why have I not learned from my mistakes? (Not to mention why will I never edit this blog?) Well, I am not the one who curled this hair of mine. No ladies, and gentlemen. Dana is the one who curled my hair. She told me, "Let's curl your hair!" You see, I warned her that it might not work. But, she lured me to the curling iron with a bag of spicy southwestern chips. (I am not weak, I am just, well, was hungry.) So soon, I was eatin' chips and playing around on my cell phone, while Dana curled my hair and burned my head. Then, I brushed my hair out a little, and put Dana's retro sunglasses on. As of now? I am waiting to go shopping? Stylish? Maybe. We will see how long this lasts.w

Who Wants To Take A Quiz?

You know, I have always loved quizzes. They give you more knowledge of, well, yourself. They make you more aware of yourself, true or not. I actually have an affinity to witing quizzes. If you want to see more wack'd quizzes, you should check out http://www.250paperclips.wikispaces.com/ , my quiz wiki. You might enjoy it. I for one do A WHOLE DARN LOT! Sorry that this is such a short tidbit of info, but after swimming for an hour, wolfing down some delish Chipotle and writing this, I have to see a movie con mi familia! There will be a more substantial post tomorrow. Until then,

HAPPY FRIDAY GNOMES! (TGIF, Thank Gnomes It's Friday.)

Snails and a new Computer.

Why don't we start out with the bit about snails? For no seemingly particular reason, Ann, my mom's friend got her children a new pet. It's a mystery snail. If you have never before seen such a snail, look below in the Random Picture of the week section. It is a mystery snail. They are not the same as regular pond snails. SO, pretty cool idea, no? That's why I am getting a pair of.... SNAILS! Snails are pretty weirdley awesome pets. For example, did you know that 5 adult snails can eat a WHOLE HEAD OF LETTUCE???? And I mean, in like, a couple hours. Snails. Eat. Mucho. Hoggy pigs. But all the more reason to love snails. Right? I... may be alone there. But even if you think mystery snails are gross, have an open mind. I mean, fish are tank livers too, right? Well. I like snails. That's good with me .

ON to the new computer top

For those who don't know me I have a dino computer, or still do... BUT I HAVE MICROSOFT WORD AND AN INTERNET CONNECTION NOW!!!! So. happy.

That's all for now, gnomes! Hey, I can print, too!

9- 11

Today, you know is a day of remembrance. On Dandelions, I like to keep it light, but on certain occasions, we must venture forth. I will give this poem out to the readers of this blog. Then I shall post about snails.

On 9 11,
A fateful day,
When towers crashed
Into the fray
Of fire wind and broken bones
And truths as hard as rock and stones
We remember those who gave their lives
For freedom's right
We saw them die
And those who were on flight 93
Who took the wheel, so dangerously.
And those who went with towers tall
For America we saw them fall.
But Americans we stand today.
And Americans we'll ever stay.

Bless America.

A Boatload of Homework

Tonight, not counting swimming, I have a load of homework, and I am blogging instead of doing it. So sorry gnomies, I haven't posted since Sunday and BY GOLLY, I probably won't get around to another REAL post until Friday... so hand on to your conical hats, gnomes... and wait till Friday.

Sunday, September 5, 2010

When Ducks Go, Well, Ducky on us

Hey! Sorry I have not posted pretty much, hmmm, since MONDAY, and yes, my good gnomies, it is Thursday. I was pretty darn busy with all the home work and extra stuff I had that I seemed to put Dandelions on the back burner. (Hey, it needed a good simmer.) Anyways, today I am posting about Ducks. Not real ducks, happily, but plastic ducks and a magazine selling biz. See, at my school there is a program where if you sell mags, you get Plastic Ducks, to win prizes with. They call you down to the office if you have each duck. EX- WILL ANYONE WITH THE XRAY THEME DUCK PLEASE COME GET A PRIZE and so on. But the only problem is.... you have to wear the plastic ducks to school. That's right. WEAR them. OK, this is well and good, but I don't know how to make a plastic duck necklace. Will anyone with ideas plz emil me? And, oh, BTW, post on the D I Y page what to do with all these ducks when the Magazine sale is over. Oye Vay.

Scroll Down!

Just an FYI, below the posts is a brown area, all the way down there. Yeah. There, you'll find, polls, policies, cool lists o' the season, a way to subscribe to Dandelions, and more! So check out the INFO BLOCK, as it's now called, or IB, and enjoy! That's all for today, my gnomes. (PS, do you mind if I call you that? It's my word instead of peeps.)

The Deal with Turtles

As most of you know, here in Ohio it is illegal to buy a small turtle, or so I am told.  When I heard this news for the first time I was stunned. I had no idea that this was the case with small turtles. However, having recentley watched a documentary on problems with food and having seen problems with salmonella, I had to agree, (If any of you have an amendment to make, Become a follower and post it as a comment or on the Dandelions Blog Page on the lightening bugs wiki.) Anyway, I have heard that it is illegal to sell the small turtles, especially box turtles. This is because the turtles harbor salmonella, a sometimes deadly disesase. What should one do if they own a turtle? Well, I know a turtle named Mr. Turtle. (For actually, people) and the best thing to do is to wash your hands after handling Mr. Turtle or another reptile. REMEMBER DON'T TOUCH WILD ANIMALS! They are wild. Anyway, what do you think? I think maybe it is best for turtles, as not as many get captured for used- to be legal sale. (Hopefully not, anyways) But remember, If you do own a turtle be hygenic, and don't get me wrong, we still love em'. I mean, who ELSE has a shell? I must say, though, for the selling of turtles to be illegal, does that mean one an no longer legally obtain a turtle in Ohio and I think a few other states as well? This must be a blow to turtle lovers everywhere, and especially across Ohio. However, keep faith! There are still lots of other lovley ways by means of zoo or pro naturalist to get up close and personal with turtles. (If you were planning to purchase a turtle, though, DON'T take my word for it, do your research!) Well, that's all for turtles, and, Mr. Turtle? We still love ya.

A High Strung Day

What do you do when everyone in your family has been walking on a tight rope that was fastened between two skyscrapers when it is only six feet long? ALL DAY, crying, pleading little siblings and a protesting mother. What do you do? Sadly, there is only one solution. You have to try to talk, and when that doesn't work, like for me, you remove yourself. I am typing on this blog for the millionth time today because I can't stand it anymore. I am going to go back down there with my family and try again. And if this doesn't work, dandelions help me.

OK, so what if I post too much?

Okay, so since this blog is just starting out, every time you come back, it looks a little diffirent. It's going to take a little while for some of the cement changes to come up. You may have noticed that the caption under the Dandelions header up there has changed. You may also notice that I have added a WHY DANDELIONS box over there to the right collumn. I am also sorry that I post too much. I love getting out there with my posts. Keep in mind, however that it has been a weekend, and on weekdays, I probably won't get to posting until maybe 3 in the afternoon. So, sorry that Dandelions is as changing as a chameleon on a tie dyed shirt, but I will soon get around to the same blog and less posting. Well, that's all for tonight, my gnomes, I have a movie to watch and hopefully some ice cream to eat if I am lucky enough. BTW, If you do get on this blog and you can't BECOME A FOLLOWER, which you can do over there in the righthand collumn, I am trying to work something out so I know if you've ever visited. It may take a while. But for know, I need you to look over in that same righthand collumn and look under SIGN IN. Thanks!

The Hot Sauce Punch

My brother Quinn and sister Parker recentley took on a hot sauce challange from my other brother Jack. What happened is what follows...

Quinn is not exactly heat resistant. While Parker probably had no trouble with the flames, Quinn did.
I was sitting down to blog, but I wasn't sure what to blog about yet.... then I saw Quinn.

"HOT HOT HOT!" He said. I said, "Quinn what are you DOING?" For he had a sizeable, ice filled glass pressed against his lips. He manadged to say, "Jack gave us a hot sauce challange." Before dunking back into the ice.

Let me tell you, my family has a history of eating too-spicy stuff. This next paragraph is blogging gold.

I, myself am no exeption to this rule. In Spanish class, our class was having a hot pepper eating contest for Cinco de Mayo. The peppers ranged from Jalapeno (hot) to Habenero (REALLY REALLY HOT.) The contest was to see who could eat the most hot peppers with the least facial expression. I was all the way up to habenero (Don't chew) and I came in second. THEN WHAM. Hot hot hot..... I could scarcley breathe it was so hot. I hadn't learned my lesson that water makes it worse, and I was gulping it down like a fish. Oops. HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT!!!! I had to carry a glass of water with me to my next class.

Then there is the infamous story of Jack. One year, we were growing really hot peppers in our garden, and Jack ATE ONE. That was bad. He was screaming to Parker, "GET THE HOSE, GET THE HOSE!" Yes, it was that bad.

And the Hot Sauce challange. Dana and I , (who is Dana? See my profile on the left collumn.) faced off, drinking hotsauce. Yum? It was by a drop, but Dana won, all three, Jalapeno Smoked and Regular in order of spice. Too bad we didn't have Habenero hot sauce.

Well, I could tell you more, but really, It's getting hot in here.

Hi, Dana.

I know you can't join this blog, but I know you're out there! SEE ANGRY ANGER in the Blog Archives (Past flowers) in the left collumn over there.

Angry Anger

What do you do when people you know, work and live by have angry anger? Well, it can be frusturating. they sometimes just won't listen, and you have to talk it out. But what if the person who has angry anger can't talk? And what if the "person" was actually... AN ANIMAL!!!!

Step One- Say NO!
Step Two- Say NO!
Step Three- Seek to train your pet.

But don't take my word for it. Really.

And what if that person who has angry anger is, well, let's say they are your brother, as is happening to me today. And no, his name will not be disclosed. But for those of you who know me, the clues will give him away. And if not, you have a 50 50 chance.

He is annoying me today.
He is slappin' my other siblings today
He has been sent to his room.
He is older than 6, yes.

I hope after that last one, if any of you are reading, you know which bro. If not, 50 50!
Anyways, we have covered that. Now what if you're dealing with an angry inanimate object?

Please. See a Professional.

WHAT?

A really quick post- I was just looking at my dandelion slidehows- and a kitten came up! What is goin' on here? And I posted this at 11:38 AM! Weirded out here.

Halloween

Halloween is one of my favorite time of year, which would sound odd considering that my other favorite holiday is Christmas. I am a scardey cat! However, there is something about Halloween that makes most people a little bit braver, like there is a sort of method to the madness, kind of like you are part of it. You may be wondering why I am blogging about Halloween on August 29th. Well, I like to look ahead. Not like department store looking ahead, but I like to have something to really look forward to. So what exactly am I masquerading as this season? I will save that until a later date.

The Beauty of Bats

I just got back from a presentation on bats at my local nature center. Bats are- wow! Fascinating! You would not believe how amazing it was. We listened to a pro naturalist's presentation about all types of bats in Ohio. There are big brown bats, little brown bats, northern long eared bats and even more! Then, we went to a farmer's farm and he had bat boxes (basically like bird houses for bats) on the side of his horse barn.  We waited until a little later at night and then bats poured out of the bat boxes! They flew out and flew off to hunt and live the really night life. Then, the naturalist and his co workers captured some bats and checked them for parasites. Just looking on at these bats up close and personal was pretty cool! Most people are pretty scared of bats, but really, they are not very big and are quite cute! There was even a bat with a band on its wing. This is rare here in Ohio, so finding that bat was exciting. I was surprised that almost everone there was braving the bats, despite that some people are scared of bats. I loved the experience, and I have to say, it was worth my while. Have you seen bats this summer?

When People Refuse to do you Favors

Why do certain people seem resistant to any favors they have to do? Hey, can you throw this out for me? "No, why should I?" and the other issue, when you seem to be the go- to favor person. What should you DO? I say, if someone keeps resisiting favors and you are doing EVERYTHING for them, try to talk to them. Because, sheesh. That can get annoying.

Dandelions

As Dandelions is named after dandelions, I am going to offer the first musing about such.

Some people think that dandelions are weeds... why? Why is a dandelion any diffirent than a rose? Sure, it is smaller, and it grows in hoardes, but what is so diffirent? People feel the need to demean dandelions and I, frankly, am not sure why. I don't like it when people don't aknowledge the existance of some living thing. You may full well disagree with me, but I will leave it to you to comment. What are blogs for? To muse, and to share ideas. So if you disagree with the all flowers for one idea, so be it. But really. Is there any particular reason dandelions are bad?
